WILD LAW/ ECOCIDE DOCUMENTARY

Fereshteh Ehsan

Since joining Wild Law UK in 2010 I immediately recognised two things. First, that the concepts of Wild Law and Ecocide were extremely pertinent, particularly in our current predicament of climate change and second, that the concepts needed to be disseminated to a wider audience.

I concluded that a documentary about Wild Law and the proposition of Ecocide being accepted as the 5th International Crime Against Peace would facilitate dissemination and support for these campaigns.  My reasoning was that where the aim is to make radical legal shifts, which formacute departures from current law and which ultimately necessitate a different way of life for many people, it is essential to lay foundations.  Support must be garnered not just through lawyers, but through the public, politicians and specialists within related fields.  The public must be informed and educated and given the opportunity to voice their comments and concerns. All have to come together to make such a change happen.

The media plays an essential role in facilitating support.  This documentary will take a small step in this direction.

The interviewees run across the spectrum and will include Michael Mansfield QC, CormacCullinan, Polly Higgins, Ian Mason, Fred Pearce (environmental journalist, author and environmental consultant to the New Scientist magazine), author of the fascinating and comprehensive ‘Sacred Economics’, Charles Eisenstein, and Oxfam’s charismatic senior researcher in economics, Kate Raworth.  Caroline Lucas has also expressed a strong interest in being interviewed and I will be speaking to her shortly to further our alliance.

The documentary will be screened at the Curzon Cinema in Soho followed by a select panel Q and A session.  It will then be released on YouTube for public viewing and sharing.

London South Bank University are working in collaboration on this project (see further details atwww.chrysalis-formations.co.uk), with funds being raised though crowdsourcing and grants. To donate, please see: http://www.peoplefund.it/wild-law-documentary/. Contributions will help thespeedy development and release of this documentary which will help the concepts of Wild Law and Ecocide reach a far greater audience.

Please also join the Facebook site: www.facebook.com/WildLawTheDocumentary, which will give updates on how the documentary is progressing.
