I don’t agree with Armando Iannucci here.
It seems to me that a more accurate analogy is that each Social Media platform is a Shopping Centre (Mall) made up entirely of Pubs (Public Houses, Bars).
So each ‘bubble’ on the Social Media platform is a different pub; there’s the quiet pub where you can have a reasonable conversation and the rough pub where everyone is speaking at the top of their voice and fights break out from time to time.
Social Media platforms are not News providers.
Therefore Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg are right to dismiss their fact checkers. You wouldn’t expect a Fact Checker to be monitoring your conversation while in the Pub and so not on Social Media either.
