There’s apparently been uproar over the graffiti on the women’s war memorial in London. I understand that the graffiti has been cleaned off the monument.

People have said that the monument was erected to commemorate the defense of democracy, others have said what a more appropriate place to paint a protest at the undermining of democracy presently being perpetrated by our government
Ironically when the government desecrates a monument to people who died fighting for democracy then that’s all right.
The chartist mural in Newport, Souh Wales was smashed to pieces with sledge hammers in 2013 and there was next to no uproar in the press, the small local protest that spilled into the internet was ignored and ridiculed.
Now an elite group has been set up to create a new commemorative monument.
But the chartist mural in Newport was destroyed.
The Government are planning to repeal the European convention on Human Rights
Is the Government saying that the Neurenberg Trials got it wrong, that we made a mistake fighting against the Nazis in World War Two; that we shouldn’t have opposed the Nazis we should have embraced them? That can be put right now by adopting their policies.
Those men and women who fought in World War Two said never again and one of the measures they put in place was the European Convention on Human Rights; I fear their efforts were in vein if we abolish that convention.
The Council in Newport were wrong to tear down a symbol of democracy in their town just as the Government are wrong in suggesting that The European Convention on Human Rights should be torn down.
